How to Clean Cat Urine out of Couch Cushions

There's no question, removing cat pee smell from your couch or carpet is no easy task. There are several DIY options you can try that will work depending on how persistent the smell is in lingering in your home, and there is also a great enzyme cleaner that is made specially for removing tough dog and cat pee smells fast.

Vinegar and Water

Vinegar is great natural urine odor remover and is successful at removing many different types of household smells.

To use vinegar to clean your couch, mix half water and half white vinegar or apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle and spray over the affected area (testing on a small spot first to make sure the water will not stain your upholstery). Blot the wet area with a paper towel or dish towel. Repeat if necessary.

Note: if you have a microfiber couch, then skip the water and spray the area with straight vinegar. The vinegar is less likely to leave water spots. Let the vinegar sit on the pee stained area for about 30 minutes before blotting.

How to remove cat pee smell from your couch using common household products like baking soda and vinegar, plus the BEST enyzme cleaner on the market.

Baking Soda

If you can't get your couch upholstery wet, then you might want to try baking soda to remove the call urine smell from your couch. Sprinkle the baking soda all over the affected area and let sit for about 30 minutes. Vacuum the area thoroughly to remove the baking soda. Repeat if necessary.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide will also remove cat pee smell from your couch. Blot up any wet areas with a paper towel first. Place about 8 oz. of hydrogen peroxide in an empty spray bottle and add a couple of drops of dish soap. Spray on affected area, there's no need to blot just let it dry, and the peroxide will neutralize the smell.

Make sure to try this method on a small area of the couch first to make sure the peroxide does not discolor your fabric.
